In 1992, with the establishment of the National Water and Wastewater Engineering Company, the management of wastewater collection and treatment in Iran entered a new phase. At that time, there was a growing demand for various types of submersible sewage pumps. However, the lack of capable domestic companies in manufacturing, sales engineering, and adapting these products to the country’s needs was a major challenge. As a result, together with several former colleagues and friends, the decision was made to use our technical knowledge and collect the structural information required for this family of pumps. Initial prototypes were developed, and the market was gradually evaluated—an effort that laid the foundation for the establishment of Berkeh Pumps Company.
Practical steps began in the same year with the production of the first molds and casting models. In early 1993, the first set of cast parts was machined in the workshop of one of our colleagues, and in June 1993, the first submersible sewage pump was assembled and prepared for testing. At that time, Berkeh had not yet been officially registered. The first test was conducted in a pool at an abandoned workshop near Tehran with minimal equipment, yielding highly satisfactory results. Consequently, by the time of the first Tehran Water and Wastewater Exhibition in the summer of 1993, three additional pump models had been produced and presented at the event.
In the winter of the same year, Berkeh Pumps Company was officially established and launched its first machining, assembly, and testing workshop at its initial site. Building on the knowledge gained from manufacturing submersible pumps with IP68 motors, the company expanded into the development of submersible dewatering pumps.
In 1995, Berkeh designed, cast, machined, and assembled its first high-flow submersible pump, rated at 55 kW with an axial-flow impeller. This pump was successfully tested in early 1996, marking the first time such a pump had been produced domestically. Following multiple orders from southern Iran, these axial-flow pumps were manufactured, tested, and delivered. During the 2000s, this product line was further expanded to include mixed-flow submersible and vertical shaft pumps.
In 1997, with growing demand from the petrochemical sector, Berkeh leveraged its expertise in submersible pump manufacturing to develop aerators. Around the same time, the company also began producing single- and multi-stage horizontal pumps for pressurized irrigation systems. Later, design improvements were introduced to enhance the mechanical reliability of these products, including more durable bearing supports, easier maintenance, and higher efficiency. For multi-stage pumps, achieving heads above 200 meters required significant design innovations beyond conventional domestic methods.
As Berkeh’s experience broadened, the company became increasingly engaged with the steel industry and mining sector, leading to the development of vertical pumps designed for clean water, contaminated fluids, abrasives, and slurries. These demanding applications required advanced designs and more complex construction materials.
In subsequent years, Berkeh also entered the oil, gas, and petrochemical sectors, where strict API standards presented serious engineering challenges. In response, the company successfully developed a wide range of pumps, including double-suction pumps, in-line pumps, slurry pumps, and self-priming pumps, expanding its product portfolio.
By the late 2000s and early 2010s, Berkeh had achieved another milestone with the production of multi-stage pumps designed according to the API BB3 standard, making it one of the first companies in Iran to manufacture this pump type domestically.
Throughout its history, Berkeh Pumps Company has remained committed to producing pumps of higher quality and more advanced construction materials. With more than 25 years of experience and expertise, the company today can confidently claim mastery of the fundamental principles of optimizing and improving centrifugal pumps, positioning itself as a reliable partner for customers across industries.
